He could just wait for her to discover the article on her own, and leave them to both ignore the thing's existence. It's a valid option, and one he has taken before.
There is a difference that changes his actions this time, though, and it's not the focus on his eligibility or unearthing Barbara's traumatic history. Both of those things are unpleasant, but in exactly the way neither one of them want to talk about.
The difference this time is the speculation and innuendo about them together
Making it a 'them' issue, not a 'me' or 'you' one.
So, he walks in with two cups of coffee, held by their handles in one hand, and uses the other to flip the newspaper onto her desk.
"You should read that."
Then gets her coffee set down and drops himself into a chair (without spilling his coffee, of course). The move is light and graceful, totally without edge or danger but not actually practiced. His expression though? ...Worried, and frustrated. Almost, but not quite crossing into anger. At least to someone who knows him as well as Barbara does.
